Traceability

You track the product from farm or livestock to market — codes, labelling, records — to open access to formal markets and export certification.

Tracking the product from farm or livestock to market — codes, labelling, records. A condition for access to formal markets and export certifications (EUDR, GLOBALGAP).

Nature of the service

What this service covers

The service organises documented tracking of a product along the whole chain: identification of plots and batches, coding, production and collection records, labelling that meets the requirements of destination markets, and safekeeping of evidence. Typical deliverables are a coding and record-keeping system, compliant labels, a map of the plots of origin and an audit-ready evidence file. It differs from digitalisation, which provides the software base, and from monitoring, which tracks performance: traceability is about compliance and proof of origin, in particular for the EUDR and GLOBALG.A.P. standards, and about being able to recall a batch when needed.

Skills and technologies involved
  • Batch coding and identification of plots, herds and collection units
  • Geolocation of plots of origin and compilation of deforestation-free evidence
  • Design of production, collection and processing records that stand up to audit
  • Regulatory labelling and marking that meet the requirements of destination markets
  • Configuration of traceability platforms and training of collection agents
What the service brings

Benefits for producers, cooperatives, companies and institutions

For producers and cooperatives: a proven origin that opens access to formal buyers and quality premiums.

For processing companies: identified batches that allow a product recall or the search for the cause of a defect.

For exporters: a compliance file ready for the EUDR, GLOBALG.A.P. and the audits of importers.

For institutions: better knowledge of the real flows of the value chain and of where production is located.

Role in the ecosystem

Why this service matters in Cameroon and Central Africa

Traceability has become a condition of access to export markets for Cameroon’s main value chains — cocoa, coffee, palm oil, timber, livestock products — and a growing requirement on regional markets. In Central Africa, where production is largely family-based and scattered, it links a multitude of smallholders to buyers who demand proof of origin and practices. The traceability provider turns this constraint into an advantage: it structures collection, secures batches and supplies the documents that certifiers, customs and importers expect. It makes the Produce – Process – Export doctrine workable on the ground, from the plot to the port.
